Boosting the green energy revolution
across South Wales

About the Project

About the Project

Renewable Horizons is an exciting, hands-on education project bringing the future of renewable energy production into South Wales classrooms. Delivered in schools across the region, this STEM-focused programme introduces learners to the technologies, challenges, and careers driving the UK’s transition to net zero, with a spotlight on the Celtic Sea offshore wind and hydrogen developments and other key developments across the South Wales region.

Through interactive workshops and team-based learning, students explore key green technologies including offshore wind turbines and hydrogen production. They will explore how electrical power and hydrogen are stored and then distributed across the grid to factories, offices, schools and homes.

Learners will design and build their own replica coastal town, with a model offshore wind and hydrogen farm, battery and hydrogen storage facilities and other key features, simulating real-world renewable energy infrastructure. These practical activities encourage critical thinking, teamwork, problem-solving, and innovation, while developing core STEM skills.

The project also looks ahead to the career opportunities these technologies are creating. From wind turbine technicians and marine engineers to environmental impact analysts and green hydrogen specialists, learners will discover the wide range of jobs that will shape a cleaner, greener future, many of which will be right on their doorstep.

Key industry players such as Dolphyn, Ore Catapult, ERM, Equinor and others are supporting the project through classroom events and careers days, to offer learners firsthand knowledge and experience of working in the renewable energy sector and its critical supply chains.

By linking local industry developments like the Celtic Sea project to the national curriculum, Renewable Horizons connects learners to the real world, helping inspire the next generation of green energy pioneers.

STEM Kit Description: Build-a-Green-Town – Exploring Green Tech & Careers in South Wales

The Renewable Horizons STEM kit concept acts as a hands-on educational resource to give learners a practical insight into the renewable energy projects, green technologies and linked green careers shaping the future of South Wales.

Inspired by real-world projects like the Celtic Sea offshore wind and hydrogen development, this interactive kit allows learners to construct a model town divided into four themed zones, each representing a vital part of a sustainable energy ecosystem:

Once each zone is completed, they connect to form one fully functioning green
townscape and a depiction of our shared clean energy future.

The kit introduces learners to careers in renewable energy, engineering, logistics,
and environmental science and a host of linked careers and career pathways,
offering a fun, future-focused learning experience.

About Rewise Learning

Rewise Learning is a creative education company designing bespoke learning
programmes, social value project and educational resources since 2008.
We believe education is a key driver for social change and making education fun is
critical to engaging young people and igniting a desire to learn. Our educational
workshops are tailored to meet specific learning outcomes whilst being practical,
hands-on, fun, and engaging.

Whether for small groups, large classes, or whole year groups, our workshops use innovative teaching methods, tailor-made teaching resources, and tutors who are not just results-driven, but who care about the entire learning experience. Ranging from STEM and coding, environmental awareness and renewable energy, to motivation and confidence building, we can build the optimal workshop for your school or CSR project.

Our primary objective is to make learning enjoyable and positively impact young
people's lives and society by addressing critical topics that affect young people and
society, including STEM, career development, environmental awareness and climate
change, and mental health and wellbeing initiatives.

We employ innovative techniques to design purpose-driven educational projects and
social value initiatives for partners including Swansea Bay City Deal, Airbus Defence
and Space.
