Key Responsibilities
• Finding stakeholders: Identifying important potential stakeholders, such as port authorities and local governments.
• Stakeholder relationships: Developing and maintaining a professional relationship with these stakeholders.
• Community engagement: Communicating with the local community about how the project may affect them, as well as leading feedback sessions and consultations with the community.
• Policy regulations: Making sure the project complies with local, national and international port and environmental regulations.
• Conflict resolution: Managing any issues held by the stakeholders and negotiating agreements to solve any conflicts that may occur.

Essential Skills
• Communication skills: Both strong written and verbal communication skills when delivering information to stakeholders and maintaining important working relationships
• Stakeholder engagement: The ability to identify, map and manage potential stakeholder relationships that are important to the project
• Time management: The ability to plan and prioritize your time to meet important deadlines
• Negotiation skills: The ability to solve issues through negotiating fair and satisfactory outcomes
• Technical literacy skills: Understanding the basics of the port and distribution sections' operations
• Teamwork skills: the ability to work effectively with a team of professionals with different roles, such as environmental consultants, policy advisors and contractors
Qualifications and Training
A relevant degree in areas such as communications, business or project management can be beneficial, but a formal degree is not always a requirement for this career.
Gain experience by working in roles related to community or stakeholder management, or join a consultancy involved in environmental or social impact assessments.
Companies may offer apprenticeships in communications and stakeholder engagement at an assistant level, this is an opportunity to gain relevant work experience that may lead to manager postitions in the future.
