Inventory Controllers

An Inventory Controller is a professional whose role is to oversee and manage the flow, storage and accountability of renewable energy components at port facilities and distribution centres.

Key Responsibilities

• Inventory management: Maintain accurate records of incoming and outgoing materials.
• System updates: Updating systems in real time with inventory movements.
• Coordination and communication: Communicate with logistics teams to ensure the port operates efficiently, as well as communicating any issues.
• Port and yard operations: Supervise unloading, storage and handling of materials as well as securing inventory.

Essential Skills

• Record keeping: Ability to keep accurate inventory logs and shipment records.
• Organizational skills: Ability to manage multiple inventories efficiently.
• Time management: Prioritising tasks during high-volume delivery periods and meeting deadlines.
• Communication skills: Clear communication with port staff, transporters, customs and internal project teams.
• Technological skills: Ability to create spreadsheets and generate reports using technologies such as Microsoft Excel.

Qualifications and Training

A degree in a relevant subject, such as, logistics, supply chain management, business or engineering.

Working in roles such as, warehouse assistant, stock controller or logistics coordinator.

Procurement teams can sometimes offer apprenticeships in inventory control, which allow you to gain experience whilst working the job and can lead to potential qualifications.

CILT (chartered institute of logistics and transport), APICS/CPIM (certified in production and inventory), IOSH/NEBOSH (for health and safety)
