A degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering or a related field.
Many universities offer industrial placements and internships as part of the geotechnical engineering degree. For example, Swansea University offers a year in industry as an option for their geotechnical engineering degree.
Some companies offer internships during the summer break while you are doing your degree. After completing your degree, you can apply for graduate geotechnical engineering roles at engineering firms, construction companies or environmental consultancy.
A level 7 Geotechnical engineering aprenticeship is equal to a full degree and allows you to gain practical experience whilst also completing formal study, many apprenticeships still require a background in SEM subjects.
Professional Certificate in Geotechnical Engineering.
