Key Responsibilities
• Supply chain and logistics strategy: To optimize supply chain routes, vessel operations and transport modes, making sure the port runs efficiently.
• Infrastructure Planning and Design: To work alongside engineers to design the port infrastructure and plan the process of construction.
• Communication with other parties: Such as government agencies, environmental bodies and port authorities.
• Cost and risk analysis: Develop cost models for port construction and operational expenses.
• Site selection: Assess potential port locations and decide on the site location.

Essential Skills
• Knowledge of port infrastructure and operations: knowledge of port design and heavy-lift operations.
• Project planning: The ability to plan large-scale logistics projects.
• Risk assessment: Risk assessment skills to anticipate possible issues during the operation of the port, such as supply chain disruptions.
• Team management: Leadership skills in coordinating teams of people across different areas of the port planning, such as engineering or operations.
• Financial and Contract management: Understanding of cost modelling, contract negotiations, as well as the ability to manage large budgets.
• Data analysis: Ability to use data, such as shipping routes, to plan port operations efficiently.
• Knowledge of maritime and environmental regulations: The understanding of international regulations.
Qualifications and Training
A degree in a relevant field such as Maritime logistics, Supply chain management, civil engineering, port management or renewable energy.
This job requires you to be well-experienced in the industry. Some entry-level jobs to develop this experience include: Logistics coordinator, supply chain analyst, junior port planner, maritime operations assistant, and offshore logistics coordinator.
Transport and logistics apprenticeships are available, such as a port operative level 2 apprenticeship, which is equivalent to a GCSE.
Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT) which is a logistics and transport certificate. Prince2 or PMP, project management certification.
