Communications Coordinator

This role involves a lot of what you would do in a marketing role. A communications coordinator helps manage the company's brand by overseeing the marketing materials, campaigns, while also tracking data on the effectiveness of this.

Additionally, you would serve as a liaison between staff members internally within the organisation day to day for daily organisation to be both effective and coherent.

Key Responsibilities

• Designing promotional materials: This is crucial as the content a communications coordinator will design is used for press releases, the company's website, and social media posts. You are the guardian of the company's public message and image. This must be not only effective but also creative to gain an edge on competitors.
• Create communications strategy: A communications strategy is imperative to how you present the companies brand to the public, therefore, this must be consistent across communication materials. Here you will work with the marketing team to ensure the right message is delivered to the public, then evaluate the effectiveness of this through communication metrics, which will provide insight on how well this is being received.

Essential Skills

• Communication: Both Written and verbal communication are essential. As communications coordinator, you are the voice of the company, which is presented to the public. This can either make or break the organisation's image. Knowledge of communication tools and software is also deemed necessary.
• Critical Thinking: You will need to think critically to gain the edge over your competitors to ensure the public sees your brand as the best option. You will work with the marketing team here to combine visual and written content for the public to consume.
• Interpersonal skills: This includes the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams such as marketing, human resources, and leadership, as well as with external stakeholders. Adaptability is key, as the role often requires shifting tone and messaging to suit different audiences and platforms. A solid understanding of crisis communication is also necessary and then to know how to respond sensitively in tough circumstances. Strategic thinking is crucial, enabling the coordinator to align communication efforts with broader organizational goals and contribute meaningfully to overall brand and business strategy.

Qualifications and Training

5 GCSEs are necessary. Then, at A-level Careers Wales recommends the following:
• Business studies
• English language
• Media studies
